Somewhere inside, you will find Horea's Christmas tree in Scorușet Forest, an impressive shrub that, at one point, was Horea and Cloșca's place of refuge. History and presentation
The village of Poiana Horea is located in the commune of Beliș in Cluj County. According to the latest population census, 424 inhabitants lived here, in the same areas full of history, myths and legends.
The name of the village comes from the symbol of freedom of the moţi, respectively Horea. Currently, it is included in the category of mountain villages typical of the Apuseni Mountains. Every location here is special, as the landscapes that can be admired from here are really dreamy.
Scorușet Forest stands out in history due to the events it hosted. Thus, here, on December 27, 1784, Horea and Cloșca stopped to warm themselves at a fire they made at the foot of the shrub that today bears the name of Bradea lui Horea from Pădurea Scorușet. Even though it was winter and the snow was lying on the ground, it was still fresh, which is why the traces were discovered. Thus, the two were immediately captured, and the army was quickly announced so that they could not be saved by friends.
The two were imprisoned in the Alba Iulia Fortress, in separate cells. Later, Crișan was also caught, all three enduring torture and daily torment to which they were subjected. The first to lose his life was Crișan, being the one who decided to end his days alone. In just two weeks, both Cloșca and Horea had a similar fate, being sentenced to death.
Horea's Christmas tree from Scorușet Forest can be admired even today, this being a clear proof of the history and existence of people in these areas.
