Beliș is a commune formed by the villages of Bălcești, Beliș (residence), Dealu Botii, Giurcuța de Jos, Giurcuța de Sus, Poiana Horea and Smida. The village Giurcuța de Jos was decommissioned in 1972 for the construction of the Fântânele accumulation dam. Belis commune is approximately 77 km west of Cluj-Napoca and about 27 km south of Huedin and is located at the foot of the Vlădeasa massif in the Apuseni mountains.
