The appearance of a place of worship plays a key role in the election of believers. When the building is erected with love and desire, the result is as expected. This category also includes the wooden church from Dealu Negru, the building that went through countless trials until it reached the aspect it has today.
In 2012, the wooden church in Dealu Negru was burned, following a fire caused by causes not attributed to a person. Until then, however, it was located in another location between 1765 and 1935. Since then, it has been rebuilt and renovated, with the help of donations from believers.
History and presentation
Located in Călăţele commune, Cluj county, the Wooden Church from Dealu Negru is dedicated to the Ascension of the Lord. It is on the list of historical monuments for 2010, being a place of worship with a special symbolism. The initial architecture of the building dates from 1765, being later modified according to the situations that imposed this.
Over time, the church has gone through countless events. The most recent took place on June 26, 2012, when the church burned completely. According to research, the cause was a short circuit that led to the destruction of the entire place of worship.
The wooden church Dealu Negru is located in the place where the church from Fincu was located, even in 1935. In its turn, this was the place of worship of a large number of Finns, who enjoyed it from the beginning ( 1765). The building was built of fir and oak beams, having the shape of a ship.
The repair of the church took place between 1991 and 1998, with the help of believers who donated money for this purpose. At that time, the guides were Priests Vasile Dan and Ioan Deac. Later, at the end of 1998, the church was reconsecrated.
Architectural aspects
At present, the wooden church from Dealu Negru is one of the few remaining monuments, which were erected from fir beams. It consists of a nave and a narthex, both of which are located in a rectangular perimeter. The altar is polygonal, with retracted walls. The porch is also located on the south side, next to the front door. Here you can also see the year of construction, right at the top.
The supporting pillars of the place of worship are raised on the side of the narthex. At first, the church had a closed gallery and an octagonal helmet. It, in turn, had four basic turrets. However, following the restoration and renovations, two of the four turrets remained.
Both the altar and the nave have a semi-cylindrical vault inside. Also, the horizontal beams make up the vault of the nave, being, at the same time, supported on a vertical vault right inside the church.
Regarding the roof, it is important to note that all the rafters are fixed in different parts, including the northern, western and southern sides.
